The Dubrovnik Summer Festival runs from 10 July to 25 August each year, using Fort Lovrijenac, the Rector's Palace, Sponza Palace, Revelin, Gradac Park and Gundulić Square as its stages. The Libertas Guide is an independent editorial guide to cultural events in Dubrovnik. See our Summer Festival Guide and Events Guide for current coverage.
Using Your Phone at Dubrovnik's Open-Air Performances
Comparing two near-identical phones such as the Galaxy S10 and its siblings often comes down to small details: battery life, low-light camera performance and screen brightness. For anyone spending a summer evening at one of Dubrovnik's outdoor stages, those details matter in a very practical way, because a phone is usually your ticket wallet, map and camera all at once.
Battery and evening events
Performances at historic venues often start after dark and can run late, and many visitors have already spent the day walking the city walls or taking a boat trip. A phone with a strong battery, or a small power bank in your bag, means your digital ticket and route home are still available when the show ends. Lowering screen brightness and closing navigation apps once you are seated helps too.
Cameras, low light and etiquette
Night-time shots of floodlit fortress walls or a stone courtyard test any phone's camera. Larger sensors and good night modes make a visible difference, but whatever model you carry, photography and recording during performances are commonly restricted. Take your pictures before the performance begins or during the interval, switch the phone to silent, and keep the screen dimmed so it does not distract other audience members in intimate spaces.
Practical checks before you go
- Download or screenshot tickets in case mobile signal is weak inside thick stone walls.
- Save the venue location offline; the Old Town's lanes can be confusing at night.
- Check the official organiser's information for any rules on devices and recording.
